The Victorian ski season has kicked off with a flurry of excitement as fresh snow blankets resorts across the picturesque Alpine region. It’s a skier’s dream come true as nature sets the stage for an exhilarating season on the slopes.
At Mount Hotham, one of the premier skiing destinations, 19 centimeters of snow fell like a soft white carpet, creating picture-perfect conditions for winter sports enthusiasts. As temperatures dropped to -2.6 degrees Celsius, snow guns added their magic touch to enhance the natural snowfall and ensure optimal skiing experiences.
“We’ve woken up in blizzard mode at Mount Hotham for opening day,”
exclaimed Alex Pankiws, the marketing coordinator at Hotham.
“The storm rolled in last night, and it’s been dumping since. With all this fresh snow, there will be lifts and terrain open soon.”
Falls Creek was not to be outdone, reporting 17 centimeters of fresh powder to start off the season with a bang. Betony Pitcher, Falls Creek’s field marketing manager, expressed optimism about the promising start and future prospects:
“This is just the beginning…our mountain operations team will be preparing to open terrain as soon as conditions allow.”
Meanwhile, over at Mount Buller, 7 centimeters of new snow greeted eager skiers on opening day. Rhylla Morgan, spokesperson for Mt Buller, couldn’t contain her excitement:
“Things are looking about as good as you could have hoped for…It basically hasn’t stopped snowing!”
With meticulous pre-season snowmaking efforts that produced an impressive 15,000 cubic meters of snow last month alone, Mt Buller was able to establish a solid base for an unforgettable ski season ahead.
As chair lifts glided into action and ski school lessons commenced amidst snowy serenity, Ms. Morgan painted a vivid picture of joy on the slopes:
“Everyone is pretty happy to have their skis on…It’s wonderful.”
The enthusiasm wasn’t limited to individual resorts; it reverberated across the entire Alpine region and beyond. The prospect of continued snowy conditions over the long weekend fueled anticipation among both locals and visitors alike.
“It’s really great news for the Alpine region and across Australia,” remarked Ms. Morgan optimistically.
With nature’s artistry on full display and ski enthusiasts raring to hit the slopes under clear blue skies or amidst falling flurries, this year promises an unforgettable Victorian ski season filled with adventure and fun for all who dare to embrace winter’s icy embrace!
