Award-winning journalist Jacob Greber is set to step into the shoes of Laura Tingle as the new political editor for ABC’s 7.30 program. The announcement, made recently by the ABC, marks a significant shift in the network’s political reporting landscape.

Greber, who currently serves as the ABC’s chief digital political correspondent, boasts an impressive career spanning nearly three decades covering a wide array of topics including economics, politics, and global affairs. His journey from being a copyboy in the Canberra press gallery to his current role is a testament to his dedication and passion for journalism.

“It’s an incredible time to join 7.30 with Sarah Ferguson and the team. Our audience rightly demands clarity and insight about the people who govern us and the challenges we face as a nation,”

Greber expressed enthusiastically about his new role.

He also paid tribute to his predecessor, Laura Tingle, acknowledging her as

“an absolute class act and fearless force of nature.”

Greber added,

“I’m humbled and thrilled to pick up where she’s left off.”

With Sarah Ferguson breaking the news during Thursday night’s program, viewers were introduced to their upcoming political editor with great anticipation. Greber will not only helm 7.30 but will also continue contributing regularly to the ABC News website and app while making appearances on various programs such as Politics Now podcast and Insiders.

From starting off as a copyboy in Canberra to covering Queensland state politics for The Courier-Mail before embarking on an international stint in Switzerland at Swiss Broadcasting Corporation and Bloomberg News, Greber has accumulated a wealth of experience that uniquely positions him for this pivotal role at 7.30.

ABC director of news Justin Stevens expressed his excitement about Greber joining 7.30, highlighting his exceptional performance during recent election campaigns.

“Jacob joins a brilliant team at 7.30—a flagship program for ABC News,”

Stevens remarked eagerly.

Meanwhile, Laura Tingle—known for her Walkley Award-winning journalism—will soon transition into her new role as ABC’s Global Affairs Editor mid-year after six years of dedicated service as 7.30’s political reporter.

Greber is slated to assume his position from July 7th onwards amidst high expectations from both within and outside the organization. The move signifies a strategic evolution in ABC’s political coverage landscape under Greber’s seasoned leadership.
