Argentine Gendarmes Wife Recounts Husbands Detention in Venezuela

María Alexandra Gómez, the wife of Nahuel Gallo, shared a heart-wrenching account of the last moments she heard from her husband before he was illegally detained by Nicolás Maduro’s regime over six months ago. Speaking from Argentina with their two-year-old son Benjamín, after being rescued from Venezuela by a Ministry of Security operation, Gomez revealed,

“The last time I heard from Nahuel was when he asked me for help as they were taking him away.”

The ordeal began on December 8, 2024, when Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo was apprehended in San Antonio del Táchira while trying to enter Venezuela from the Colombian border. Since then, Maduro’s regime has kept his whereabouts shrouded in secrecy, only releasing sporadic photos as proof of life. Despite persistent efforts to uncover information about her husband’s location, Gomez encountered continuous evasion tactics when she visited El Rodeo, a high-security prison in Caracas.

Recounting her frustrating experience at El Rodeo, Gomez stated how officials stalled and provided no concrete answers:

“‘Wait a moment while we gather information,’ they said and left me waiting for an hour. Then they would come back out and say: ‘He is not here. Have a good day.’ That went on for three months.”

The lack of transparency and stonewalling tactics by Venezuelan authorities added to her anguish.

In an emotional revelation during an interview with Telenoche, Gomez recalled the heart-wrenching phone call she received from Nahuel just before his detention:

“‘At 10:57 in the morning (on December 8), I’ll never forget it; I got that call from Nahuel asking for help. My world came crashing down on me; it was the worst moment of my life. ‘Who is taking you?’ I asked him but heard nothing more after that. He hung up. That was the last time I heard Nahuel’s voice pleading for my help.”

The journey to bring Gomez and Benjamín back to safety in Argentina involved a covert operation facilitated by the Argentine government under Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich’s supervision along with support from various parties including activist Elisa Trotta. The mother-son duo traveled discreetly across Colombia after leaving their home in Anzoátegui and reached Buenos Aires via Bogotá with assistance every step of the way.

Despite diplomatic inquiries by Argentina and Brazil regarding Gallo’s status – Brazil handles such matters since relations soured between Javier Milei’s government and Maduro’s regime – Venezuelan authorities have been tight-lipped about providing concrete details on Gallo’s confinement other than sporadic images showing him engaging in physical activities within an undisclosed penal facility.

Amid ongoing uncertainties surrounding Gallo’s situation post-detention, international attention remains focused on securing his release as both his family and diplomatic channels strive tirelessly to obtain accurate information regarding his well-being and ultimate freedom.

Gomez summed up her unyielding commitment to finding her husband with these poignant words:

“I have never stopped searching for you even for a second—never stopped loving you. Every day I speak to your son about you. Every night I dream that you call me or that you are set free; that is my clearest dream.”

As efforts continue towards securing answers concerning Gallo’s status within Venezuela’s legal system plagued by opacity and challenges navigating geopolitical tensions between nations involved – hope remains anchored around reuniting this family torn apart by political turmoil once again amidst uncertain circumstances.
