Dignidade: Tarifa Social garante água e esgoto a quem mais precisa

In the heart of Teresina, families now have a lifeline in the form of guaranteed access to clean water through the Social Tariff program. Ensuring universal access to clean water and sanitation is not just a necessity but a fundamental right. It is a commitment that the Águas de Teresina takes seriously. The Social Tariff initiative stands out as a beacon of hope for vulnerable families, providing a crucial lifeline for those who need it most, recognizing water as a fundamental resource for life itself.

Currently benefiting over 24,000 families in Teresina, the program offers a 50% discount on water and sewage bills, along with exemption from the sewage connection fee provided by Águas de Teresina, which has now reached a coverage of 59%. Carolina Serafim, the director-president of Águas de Teresina, emphasizes that “access to treated water is a right for all, and through the Social Tariff, we aim to ensure that no family is left behind. It’s more than just a discount on the bill; it’s about providing dignity, health, and quality of life for thousands of people.”

To extend the program’s reach, the sub-concessionaire partners with community leaders and organizes service outreach events. Diecson Prado, the Social Responsibility manager at Águas de Teresina, states, “When an essential service like treated water doesn’t reach everyone, the community as a whole suffers. Our commitment is to ensure that more and more families have access to this vital resource.”

One such beneficiary is Irene Gonçalves, a resident of São Francisco, who expressed her joy at the savings brought by the program, saying, “I was very happy to be included in this project because now I’m paying less on my bill, and the savings mean more money for other household needs like food and even leisure. I am very satisfied and grateful for the opportunity to be part of this program.”

To qualify for the Social Tariff, families must meet specific criteria: be residential customers, have Cadúnico registration, and have no outstanding debts with Águas de Teresina. Required documents for enrollment include an official ID, CPF, Citizen Card or NIS/Cadúnico number, current water bill, Work ID, and property document (if the applicant is not the owner).

Enrollment for the Social Tariff can be completed at Águas de Teresina service centers or by calling 0800 223 2000. Ensuring access to clean water is not just about infrastructure but about promoting dignity and citizenship for those who need it most.
