Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles alongside fellow gymnast Jade Carey both had Barbie dolls released in honor of International Women’s day recognizing the power of friendship. The duo were integral to the U.S. women’s gymnastics team that dominated the Paris 2024 Olympics, helping Team USA secure gold. Chiles and Carey’s dolls both wear outfits inspired by their past performance looks, with Chiles’ doll wearing a multi-colored leotard and Carey’s doll wearing a green leotard with gold details. Both dolls also wear their hair in updos with bows matching their leotards. In a Mattel press release, Chiles, whose mother is Latina and father is Black, spoke about her excitement in being honored alongside Carey and the power of female friendship: “I’m beyond pumped to be honored alongside one of my best friends, Jade Carey, with a Barbie made in my likeness to celebrate International Women’s Day,” Chiles said in the press release. “There’s no power or peace quite like knowing you have a support system of women behind you. I hope that partnering with Barbie to celebrate the power of female friendship reminds the next generation of champions that we are stronger together.” Stay connected! You are already subscribed to our newsletter Born in Tualatin, Oregon on April 15, 2001, Chiles grew up in Vancouver, Washington and began gymnastics at six years old after her mother noticed her athleticism and flexibility. She first made her elite debut in 2013 and was selected to be a member of the Junior National Team. She was later added to the 2018-2019 national team and moved to Spring, Texas to train at the World Champions Centre, where famed Olympic gymnast Simone Biles trains. Chiles then competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2022 World Championships, where she won silver on floor exercise, and 2023 Pan American Games, where she won bronze in the all-around. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chiles helped the U.S. earn their fourth overall Olympic team gold medal and competed in the floor exercise final, earning the bronze medal after her coach submitted an inquiry to revise her score. After the Romanian Gymnastics Federation appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the court made the decision to strip her of her bronze medal.
